Our History

Celebrating 20 Years in the Lake Mary Community!

Our founding pastor, Dr. John Montgomery, was the pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia. God instilled a desire in his heart to plant a church and then opened the doors for him to come to Lake Mary with support from the PCA and Spanish River Church. On September 15, 1991, River Oaks Church held its first service at Lake Mary Elementary School.

Friendships began forming and God brought people together who had a passion and enthusiasm for reaching people in our community. The church rapidly grew and moved to Driftwood Village in November of 1992 and then to our current home on Washington Avenue in July 1999. Today God continues to bring people together who love Jesus Christ and desire to be His hands and feet in our community.

In 2010, Rev. Montgomery retired and River Oaks called her second Pastor, Rev. David Camera. Rev. Camera lives in Lake Mary with his wife Gwen and their 3 children.

In September, 2011, River Oaks celebrated her 20th anniversay. Today River Oaks is looking forward to all the God will continue to do in through the church in the next 20 years.
